Isle Intelligence Report: April 2014

Better weather means more skating – and that's exactly what's been happening here over the past month! As well as preparing the next two series of Isle graphics, there's been lots of travel and coverage for the Isle team recently.

Firstly, Kingpin Magazine did an epic 13-page feature on the recent Isle trip to Athens, Greece. Jake Harris wrote the feature and Sam Ashley took the photos – and there's some great content, ranging from Chris Jones's tail-less hippie jump through to Tom Knox's backside smith. Casper Brooker, Jensen, Shier and Sylvain all have significant presence too. Thanks everyone who helped out on this.

Casper just got back from a trip to check out the new Nike SB 'Shelter' park in Berlin as part of the Slam City crew, with Jake Harris, Chris Pulman and Tom Tanner. Check out the video:

Sylvain's part in the new Nozbone video, 'Café Clope', is definitely something to check out too. Watch out for the perfectly-timed finisher:

Our main man in SF, Jon Nguyen, gets a quick interrogation on the Strange Notes YouTube channel, as part of their 5x5 series:

Also on the interrogation tip, Mr. Paul Shier had a proper sit-down with our friends at Theories of Atlantis and runs through what he's been doing since his amazing part in Static II a decade ago.

The Slam City crew went and checked out the new HTC skatepark at Selfridges, London. Check out the great edit by our buddy Mark Jackson and spot all the familiar faces (alongside our very own Nick Jensen and Casper). The park looks great, so make sure you go and check it out while it's there.

Enough typing for now: that lot should see you through until our next update!

Isle March Update: Material Series, Athens, Bright Euro Awards

As we enter our second year of operations here at Isle, it's only right that we acknowledge everyone who's supported us over the past twelve months. To all the distributors, shops, magazines, social media followers and skaters who've picked up or featured an Isle product or team rider – thank you! Extra special thanks to Henry at Grey magazine and Jake Harris for their continued support too.

Speaking of Jake Harris, we'd like to congratulate him and the featured riders in 'Eleventh Hour' for winning 'Video of the Year' at the Bright European Skateboard Awards in January. A worthy winner indeed and we're proud to have had a strong Isle presence within. Watch for more Isle footage from Jake coming soon. Shout to Sam Ashley for winning best photographer too.

You might have already seen them in the shops, but if not, look out for our latest two series of board graphics – the first of our Artist Series with Lee Marshall (see Lee's new website here: www.lamarshall.co.uk) and the Material Series, where we worked up a trio of graphic treatments featuring our Isle logo. Paul's board features model making foliage, on top of a background image of the ceiling panels at Southbank, Nick's graphic takes two different marble textures and Sylvain's board references the Memphis design and architecture group established in 1981.

The Isle team recently went to Athens, Greece for a little trip, the results of which will be featured in the next issue of Kingpin magazine: keep an eye out for that very soon. We're about to hit the studio next week to start producing the next batch of graphics and apparel – we'll keep you posted.

The sun's out and it's warming up a bit over here in London... and on that positive note, we're signing off for now!

Isle FW13 – Artist Series #1 – Lee Marshall

When we started thinking about artists we'd like to work with whilst developing our Artist Series, Lee Marshall immediately came to mind. We met up with Lee at his studio in the summer and commissioned him to create the first installment in this series for us.

The finished boards have just reached the shops, so we went over to East London to catch up with Lee and get his thoughts on the project. Mark Jackson kindly filmed and edited the interview for us, and we're extremely proud to give you an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse of what goes into our projects here at Isle.

Up Now! Isle Skateboards for Dazed Digital – Visionaries

As we teased last week with the trailer, our four films for Dazed & Confused/Dazed Digital are now online. Read an interview with Nick Jensen about the process here on Dazed's site and check out the films below:

#1: Together | Apart
The main film, 'Together | Apart', strips back the workings of a studio shoot, exposing an interplay between skateboarding and representation.

#2: Light | Dark
The second film, 'Light | Dark', was made over two evenings and features the Isle team skating after dark. The film focuses on the atmospheric experience of night with an addition of fireworks to add a stark contrast.

#3: Stop | Start
The second film, 'Stop | Start', features Chris Jones and was filmed over two days in Wales and London. The film uses Super 8 film to convey the actions of Chris's skateboarding as well as his recent relocation from his hometown to London.

#4: Left | Right
The final film, was filmed over two days in London. It shows Tom Knox and Nick Jensen skating in synchronicity. Their opposing stances allow for some very interesting mirrored imagery.

Many thanks to everyone who helped us put this project together: much respect to all of you who gave up time, loaned us equipment and offered general support throughout.

Isle Skateboards: November 2013 Field Report

It's been a minute or two since we did a recap on our recent coverage, so here's the latest field report from the Isle comrades.

Firstly, a big shout to Henry Edwards-Wood and the LLSB team for putting together this amazing short film on the reasons why Southbank should be saved. Preservation, not relocation. Make sure you've signed the petition and then spread the word.

If you haven't seen it yet, you need to go and pick up Jake Harris's excellent Eleventh Hour DVD. It's out now in all good skate shops for around £8.50 and features the whole Isle team. Check out the final trailer and then invest:

There are interviews with Jake Harris, Nick Jensen, Tom Knox and Sylvain Tognelli amongst all the great articles on Grey Skate Mag's website.

Nick has got a great four-page interview in issue 87 of Lodown Magazine, where he discusses skating, his artwork and Isle. The same issue has some nice features on Gonz, Brian Gaberman, Gabe Morford and others, so it's well worth checking out.

Whilst we're on the subject of Nick, he's a big part of the epic 9-page Isle Skateboards feature in issue 6 of Dank Magazine from Norway. Dank is one of our favourite mags, with an emphasis on photography and clean design. Thanks guys.

You may have spotted Sylvain in the Modus Bearings promo clip recently: he's currently in Los Angeles, escaping the Berlin winter for a few months. Chris Jones filmed an amazing welcome promo with the guys at Small Wheels that you should definitely check out.

And to round off this report, Tom Knox has a rad interview over at Y-Magazine that's well worth checking out.

The new season's boards will be with us soon, along with some other nice items, and there's a special film project coming very shortly. More on that later...
